“A Message from Our Mother” by Cindy Georgakas

Dip your hands into the rich soil and remember me,
for I am your mother, who holds you.
Before you existed, I was here ready
to greet you and teach you
to be good stewards.

Sink into my earthly treasures that hold secrets
and bury your family and friends in my terrain.
Feel the crushed bones upon your feet
and the ashes sent to sea.

That is me, holding you
to float to ever lasting peace.
Watch the seedlings burst forth
from compassionate souls that replant
when my trees have been singed and cut down.

The animals will come out of hiding again
because of you.
Our waters are slowly being restored
thanks to those that research and call us to the table.
A table where we can all drink
from the well of restoration,

and create new technology
to slow the warming that drives the polar bears and penguins
from existence.
They’re waving, can you see that?
Please wave back, don’t shake your fist.
They need your positivity.

Desperate times call for desperate measures;
it’s true but not out of desperation.
Out of love for our planet.  I feel your love
and I thank you from the topsoil to the earth’s mantle
all the way to China.

Throw in some seeds of hope and prayer
and don’t forget to bless me and the messengers
that deliver my song from the eagles
and the condors who battle the night sky
pecking their way into the minds of greed.

Listen beyond words to the song of our heart.
Earth is being rebuilt as destruction continues.
It’s vast I know, but don’t get caught in the trap
of vengefulness and hate. There’s no room or time
for that.

Pick up your shovels, clean up the rubble,
filter the debris. Speak up, write letters,
stand on the line, sign up for clean-up day,
keep planting these seeds of hope.

I need you more than ever.

The world is a beautiful place,
and you are my Children I so love.
Do it for your children and grandchildren
and mine;
to teach them what a better tomorrow can look like
when we come together
in love.

I have a dream—We all have a dream,
and we will wake up from this illusion of power
and control in time.  Keep thinking with your heart
and build bridges of tomorrow.
Some will fail and fall
and that’s ok.

We begin again.
Keep your head in the clouds and the cosmos,
not the newspaper that delivers the blows
to keep everyone riled up in materialism
with more greed than need.

Stand for love of humanity for one and all.
There is no i in I. In time,
you’ll see us standing on a new plain of existence
where the air clears once again
and the waters reflect clarity and joy.

The fish will splash in wonderment
in the rivers that flow,
and animals will return to the forests
where they belong.
Waters will be clean and sustain us,
and return us to homeostasis
together, as one.

Trust me please. I need you.
Every single one of you.
Do your part and start now.
And please don’t forget Grandfather,
sitting in the south who holds up the night sky.
This is our time to come together
in peace.

Dear Cindy what an imperative piece of writing to remind people not to take the earth for granted. I see the earth as a living, breathing creature that has to have the respect she deserves. I love that beautiful statue in your garden and all the sweet things you mention which of course are all true. Water will be the first resource that we will run out of and unfortunately for many countries that is already happening. Compost everything.

    This was especially touching Cindy:

“Stand for love of humanity for one and all.
There is no i in I. In time,
you’ll see us standing on a new plain of existence
where the air clears once again
and the waters reflect clarity and joy.”

Descriptive stanzas about real issues, what a great piece Cindy, Congratulations. Big hugs, Joni

    1. Thank you for your wonderful lines, Joni! I’m so glad you enjoyed those lines and my piece in general. There is a lot of good happening and we highlight only the worst but small changes bring larger ones and we need to applaud the small ones and rally others to do the same.. I appreciate your words and support always💕🌏👏

  15. Wow Cindy this is the most amazing poem in recognition of our Mother Earth!! Every stanza is quotable…I love your rhyme, your wisdom and how you made me think of all the way our Mother provides. I was just reading with my mouth open, tears stung my eyes and after I finished your last beautiful lines, I said a silent prayer to never take her for granted. Bravo Cindy…and I don’t use that word lightly 🤗
