“On the Other Side of Meno” by Nolcha Fox

Meno paused, packed up
the sweats, the chills, the flashes,
spurts of blood, the body morphing
into moody creature from a
feature no one wants to see.
She waved her ticket to Hawaii.
One way, I hope, I kicked
her ass goodbye and closed the door.
I didn’t know she’d leave me
dry and fat and wide awake
with brittle bones to break,
and heart attacks to take me
to the grave.

She’s such a bitch.

My mother warned me that all sorts of nasty things would happen as I aged. She was right. She’s always right. Thanks!

So far I have met two doctors that have said basically, aging is a cruelty toward women. I wanted to hug them both for it too. Touché Nolcha for writing the witty and brilliant piece about this very subject.
