He replaced the darkness with sunshine

He was what I needed at the time
He made me feel good
He made me smile and laugh again
He replaced the darkness with sunshine
He wasn’t intense or deeply serious
We could just be together and have fun
But after a while
Fun wasn’t enough
I longed for something more
There wasn’t much to him
Below the surface
But I kept searching
Digging only to find more and more
Parts of him that I didn’t like
Parts of him that were shallow
Empty
But
He replaced the darkness with sunshine
And he was digging too
Deeper and deeper
He crawled into my wounds
Like salt
Searching and searching
He didn’t understand why
I didn’t want to let him in
But
He replaced the darkness with sunshine
So, I let him see my broken pieces
He took them
And he tried to mend them
But both of us were falling apart
We tried to hold it together
Because we had dug too deep to get out now
And
He replaced the darkness with sunshine
He said that if only he could have all of me
Then, he could love me
But he changed his mind
Because love making doesn’t
Make you love someone
It can’t fix what’s been broken
It makes you give up
The very last piece of yourself
To a man
Who couldn’t even put together the pieces he’d already taken
But
He replaced the sunshine with darkness
And
The thing about being in the Sunshine too long
Is you get burnt

Love does not make all the problems fade, we have to fix those on our own for sure. This is a truth that is beautifully written and reads like a story that many of us have probably felt at one time or another. Congratulation!!!!
