“The Parachutist” by Tony Ashenden

I am dropping
out of the skies huge head
whirling like the flower above me
singing in the wind. My last home
The silver - metal bee
drones forward
into the sun
and I
her human seed
am reaching
for my
roots
in
the
glazed
earth
feet first.

Having travelled as a seaman to over 40 countries and diagnosed medically unfit at 22 from conjunctival eye problems to continue his Navy career, Tony was landed ‘high and dry’ without a known future. Mysteriously his eyes returned healthily to full sight within weeks of his discharge and his medical pension was annulled. Alone and penniless he took on labouring work and socialised at a local dance hall. Recognised as a talented mover, he qualified as a professional dance teacher with plans to enter the musical theatre -but it was not to be. Writing with the intention of becoming a playwright, living hand to mouth, his life dramatically changed when a medium gave him incontrovertible evidence of events and so-called dead people, and said he was gifted in the same way! Whilst training to express this new-found self, outwardly to the world becoming a computer analyst -travelling again, words would flow without hesitation, poetry, and philosophic writings he could barely understand himself. Apart from his professional life in the computer industry, he practised as a medium and healer, founding a charity to aid people understand their psychic and spiritual selves, creating a BodyMind philosophy which practically provides self-discovering meditative forms of development. An advocate of complementary and alternative medicine, a believer in the unification of body, soul, and spirit, his writings in whatever form they take are dedicated to the harmonious development of Man. Life is real only then when I am. Please visit his blog Mine Quick Voice of Aquarius  to see some of his work.

I love the shape of this poem and how the words just literally drop…

    1. Appreciate your comment -thank you! Just note the line ‘forward drones’ seems to have suffered in transmission. It should read ‘drones forward’. Another one of my poems, ‘The New Barns’ is scheduled to publish in April.

The poem reads correctly. I just looked. Basically, I cut and paste whatever is sent to me. I don’t see ‘forward drones’. Perplexed.

Dear Tony, love this piece for several reasons. The visual is great. Also I hope to not be around when the robotic bee drones are commonly seen everywhere. They have had to use these already in some places but at the rate we are losing bees I still might. Great piece Tony as always, big hugs, and blessings, Joni
