“Par le train de minuit” by Myriam Descendres

Je tente bien que mal
L'œil rivé sur le cap
de Bonne-Espérance
J'en oublie quoi rêver

Le chemin... le chemin
Cette voie mystique

Comme la plupart sont des routes
je suis un endroit
sinon ce lieu désert

Mon jardin...
Ma vigne...
Ma lie...

Les trains ici passent toujours
S'enfonçant dans mes silences

Tu avais remarqué...
Combien ils sont à la fois
le chemin et le lieu?

De longues rails de fer
Contractant le temps
dans l'espace...

On m'avait dit:
L'homme a une maison
mais reste une véranda*

Rien n'aura jamais été
plus vrai

Ils ont de belles photographies
Et un coeur bien triste
Comme si la vie
se délavait doucement
en teintes sépia

Il est vrai que
Je ne suis que
sable
en écumes;
argentiques

*Alessandro Barrico : City

Now, enjoy the poem in English.

By the midnight train

Attempting beyond good
and evil
The eye transfixed
On the way
I forget why I dream

The way... that mythical
way...

So many are roads
So few a place to call
Home

No more than an empty
room

My garden
My vines
My lees...

Here the trains still pass
So deep in the silences
of my glowing nights

And they roll and rock
Both the places and the ways
Over long irons trails
Contracting time
Into space

Men have houses
You said
But are porches*
Mere windows
Of their souls

They have beautiful photographs
And mournful hearts
A life in sepia tones

True, I concede
Mine being
Of black and white
A life in argentique

Bravo! More poems in bilingual texts would be welcome, especially in French, as this very fine one, as well as in Spanish and Arabic. Compliments to Miriam.

C’est vrai. Merci à vous, et bonne journée aussi. En français c’est “Jacques” mon nom. Je lis français assez bien, je l’écris moins bien (évidemment!). Cheers and regards.

How very beautiful Myriam and so lovely to read you here. I was able to feel myself on a train and could imagine the slight rhythm and looking out the windows. A beautiful write and I also thought this was so clever,

      Thank you mlle Cindy

It is awesome to share, and touch people, to make them feel or evade or love.

I read that there was another tragedy in California… as if the flood wasn’t enough. Hope you are safe and far from all that chaos.

Take care and I send you hugs ❣♥️❣
