The imagery here is so vibrant I can smell the aromas of the food being cooked. Such detail and care obviously went into this poem, and it shows in the loving way you’ve presented this piece. Beautiful writing, Joni–another masterpiece, my friend! 🙂

Dear Mike, thank you so much for your gracious words. They are so thoughtful. My mother was a wonderful cook. The house did smell wonderful when she made her cinnamon rolls. Big hugs, Joni

Love these opening lines Joni, they’re just beautiful! 👌👏❤️ And the one about «fresh coffee clinging to the walls» is a fantastic description of the caffeine aroma!👏👏😁😁

KK, thank you so very much. I am glad you like the imagery. This would have been more like my mother’s kitchen would have looked like as they were extremely poor and lived in a barn at one time, with twelve children. Still, when my momma cooked, and she was a wonderful cook, it was sone with love. Thank you so much again KK, much love, Joni

This was such a feel-good poem, Joni. I totally loved the imagery. It warmed me, even as a cold wave hits our city, and we sit in our homes, frozen.

I wonder why we don’t see you on one of these magazines. There are three now for English and I know that MasticadoresIndia and MasticadoresUSA are accepting submissions and you are a wonderful story teller. Also, Manuela Timofte who writes for MasticadoresRomania may be looking too. These are all such lovely people to work with. Terveen loves a great story teller and that is certainly you. I am still working on my skills but perhaps you are too busy. So many talented people and such talented poets that commented here that could submit their work. Sending you a big hug and I really do appreciate your kind words as your story telling is amazing. Joni xoxoxo

That’s lovely of you to say, Joni. I used to be involved when Gabriela was at MasticadoresUSA. Since then some things have changed, I’ve become busy with my site and a new project I’m working on and I feel like I’m spreading myself too thin when I start contributing my stories instead of spending the time writing new ones. It’s definitely something to keep in mind and I’ll remember this conversation. Please feel free to send me links where I can contribute my work, if you have the time, especially to Terveen. It’s something to think about. Thanks for your ever-gracious comments, Joni; I truly appreciate you. ❣️

So so sorry to hear of their suicides, Joni. I’ve been affected by three suicides. There are only victims, no solutions, with a suicide.

You’re so welcome Joni!!! Oh that’s a lovely memory. I went light on my Childhood memories for G’s book.. Not sure if you saw me read it on Fri-Yay Funday but I did have fun with it. Take a peek when you get a chance. I actually can cook and do well and like it when I have time. Key word.
I appreciate you. Love and hugs to you as well! 💗

Joni, thank you for your beautiful submission! I’m also from a large family, and Mom cooked meals from scratch. Your poem brought back memories for me!

I am so glad it hopefully brought back some good memories for you Barbara. It is truly a labor of love when someone bakes from scratch, especially cinnamon rolls and cream puffs made with real custard and chocolate on top. Yummy, Barbara I am making myself hungry. Great big hugs, Joni

I cook and bake from scratch too as I helped Mom a lot. She’s the reason I can bake bread! Oh, and pies! I recall how much she had to prepare for 7 kids. In my book Three-Penny Memories, I want kidding when I said that she baked 12 homemade pizzas – crusts and all, even her own sauce stretched out on cookie sheets- to feed us at a time. The leftovers became breakfast at least for me!
She was on her feet a lot. I’m so grateful. ♥️
