The Song of River Grass by Barbara Leonhard

The Song of River Grass

by Barbara Leonhard

Seedlings in spring,
tall grasses in summer sun.

We swish in breeze
on the river’s edge.

In the bluster of autumn,
our seeds scatter
like stunned bees.

Our ravaged arms
reach for the setting sun.

The glassy river
reflects our age
as colors fade.

Our stems bend,
thirsty for noon.
