-In response to “Melancholie”, a Statue created by Albert György in a park, Quai du Mont Blanc, in Lake Geneva, Switzerland

Chilled knife carves out the bloody spoils

of my shadows

My head bows to my hollow

and my shoulders weep the burden of air

My arms brace the jagged symmetry of sorrow

as my limbs tear naked to my hands

and collapse to spill the shimmer of what remains.

Barbara Leonhard’s work appears in various online and print publications, and anthologies. She earned both third place and honorary mention for two poems in Well Versed 2021. Her premier poetry collection, Three-Penny Memories: A Poetic Memoir, which is about her relationship with her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, will be published October 2022 by EIF – Experiments in Fiction.
