stems and seeds

by Jeff Flesch, Monthly Contributor

shadows are cast over my eyes
as I try to find

the nature of reality inside
the stems and seeds

gifted to me
while I await the return of the tide
within

the heart and stone romancing
the sun

betrayed none

yet the pain wells up
reminding me of the trip out west

where my love lingered in the flowerbed
of your heart

Do you remember, my love?

I once rested my head there instead

This highly visual and metaphorical poem speaks of patience, a longing for and trying to understand what once was, and the aching pain that sometimes accompanies love. Beautiful. 💖

How this pain rises and falls
From pleasure and passion to deeply-rooted heartbreak
    Of oft unrequited loving
Wrenchingly whispered in sentimental and sensual imagery.
