At nightfall
the last Elders of the city arrive
at Gitana’s – the cafe in the corner.
The trees abandon their thoughts in an abundance of layers on the pavement across
and red-blooded gypsies hide themselves
in paintings.
The front seat is left unoccupied nowadays
as the Elders of the city roll their memories slowly,
like some cigars as round as the Earth
in a flash of red
then embraced by fire.
Just around the corner, an ambulance,
a drum and a voice calling out:
«Next!»
It’s the only day in the year
when the trees abandon their thoughts…

Truly beautiful Virginia and a big congratulations to you!!!! To me this lovely piece is the description of getting prepared for the ending of this temporary home on earth. The trees will be clapping and mountains will sing ( from scripture). Congratulations again Virginia!! Hugs 🤗 Joni
