Poem

Wrapped around a child’s fishing pole, lives
a vibration of time steadily stamping out
a form of a memory. Time, which floats in
and out of the child’s consciousness while
inhaling the smell of pond water
mixed with the blue sky covering the tops
of the pine trees- he does wonder about time.
When does time stop.
How do we know when it’s time to go and
when does time think about us. How does
time work and why is there time. Why is
there anything. He felt a nibble on the end
of his line. The wind sent small rippling waves
toward the shoreline. He stood, with his boots
submerged only a few inches, and watched as the
wind calmly pushed the murky water passed him.
The nibbling had ceased. He stood alert, prepared
for the next round. Maybe he’d yank up on the pole.
Maybe he’d wait until the trout had taken the worm.
Maybe he’d stand in the water for the entire afternoon
waiting for his thoughts to end in a timeless memory.

ABOUT US
Welcome to MasticadoresUSA.
MasticadoresUSA was founded by Juan Re Crivello as part of Gobblers/Masticadores in 2021. Its current editor is Gabriela Marie Milton.
MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.
What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.
SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES
If you want to submit, please send your work – poetry and/or short prose – to gabrielamariemilton@gmail.com. In addition to the piece(s), you want to have published, we need your name, and the address of your site. Submit your work as a docx attachment – not in the body of the email. Limit your submission to two pieces. We do not accept pieces longer than 300 words.
What are the themes that we are looking for? Surprise us!
However, MasticadoresUSA does not publish any work that contains racist, homophobic, sexist, and hate talk of any kind.
The poem describes the moment spent by the child holding the fishing rod, beautifully. Enjoyed the flow.

This is so lovely and reminds me of how I would fish when I was young. Much was more contemplative and watching nature than anything else. Beautiful piece. ❤️❤️

That is a blessing my friend. I have three grandchildren now 8, 9, and 10 years old and I feel the same way. I am happy for you. It was really a beautifully written piece that touched my heart. ❤️

I’m so happy that this landed well with you :)..a friend of mine read this poem (from my home town) and she told me that it brought tears…

Yes it had a similar effect on me. Honestly it made me think of the one “mostly” safe place I had to go as a child and I would fish and talk to God. I guess I was crying for that little girl who comes out. This is a happy memory for me. Thank you for sharing this piece. Hugs and love to your family. ❤️❤️
