There is a place
by Jude Itakali
There is a place I flee to every night
A place of hopes and fears
For as I cradle hope, fear creeps in
And as fear consumes me, only hope remains!
Through day’s facade,
my mind lingers in this place
Reason tells me to ignore it
To turn my footstep to safety
But when dusk falls and twilight rises
I always return to Hope and Fear
There are many who have numbed this place
Who have chosen comfort and forgotten its feeling
Its anxiety and excitement
Its euphoria and depression
All those lows that make the highs divine
And all the highs that make the lows damning!
I come to this place, for to ignore it, is to die a living death
Each night I come here, that my soul may live as well
Each night I do what many say I should never do; I follow my heart
While each dawn I dream,
That one day I’ll live my dream.
Welcome to MasticadoresUSA.
MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.
What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.
If you want to submit, please send your work – poetry and/or short prose – to firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition to the piece(s), you want to have published, we need your name, and the address of your site. Submit your work as a docx attachment – not in the body of the email. Limit your submission to two pieces. We do not accept pieces longer than 300 words.
What are the themes that we are looking for? Surprise us!
However, MasticadoresUSA does not publish any work that contains racist, homophobic, sexist, and hate talk of any kind.
Looking forward to your submissions.
