Wonder came first
at your eyes, so deep and green,
at your singing, by my side,
at your tenderness, when night comes!
A caress came second, like a gust of wind…
not the touch of human hand
but a tide that lingered on my trembling, weeping skin!
«Oh, if only it weren’t for your skin,
that thing to separate us,»
You’d whisper in my mind
«This obstacle is killing me!
Allow me by your side
One with your flesh to be,
and if you would let me be your guide
there’s no darkness, you will see!»
Amazed and weakened, as I fell asleep
these words a murmur to the deep:
«From now on, I won’t need my skin,
no more»
and saying this I grabbed it and I tore
One being we shall be forevermore! …
I don’t recall my memories, myself
only at full moon, I walk sometimes.
Two deep, green eyes watching me, out of the dirty pond,
Giggling at me, double-tongued!

ABOUT US
Welcome to MasticadoresUSA.
MasticadoresUSA was founded by Juan Re Crivello as part of Gobblers/Masticadores in 2021. Its current editor is Gabriela Marie Milton.
MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.
What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.

This is such a thought provoking poem and is beautifully written. Perhaps I read my own thoughts into your lines as we do in all intriguing pieces. To me this prose comes with an extremely deep meaning. At first I thought of a lover, someone she desired so completely she wished to be yoked with (to become one as man and wife) and then I thought of an angel. However the end made me think of something wicked who she was beguiled by. Perhaps something in the guise of an angel but really an evil spirit. I found this to be alluring, mystical and leaving me wanting to read more. Beautifully written.
