Hitman by Timothy Price

Hitman

August sixth nineteen seventy one
Julio made his first hit
He was only seventeen at the time
Uncle Cicero was too sick
He asked Julio to do the job
A simple job indeed
He only needed to kill a man
For a Coca-Cola you see

“But it’s not right to kill a man
doesn’t the good book say?»
Thou salt not murder
Thou shalt not kill
Thou shalt not be
lead astray.»

But a young girl, she had been raped
She was thirteen, the man was thirty-eight
She needed vengeance for what she bled
He had to pay with a bullet in the head.
It’s still not right to kill a man
But then uncle Cicero said
For a sin like rape God will look the other way
«Listen carefully to what I have to say…»

Chorus
Ten Hail Marys your soul will be safe
Twenty Our Fathers will be your saving grace
Here’s a Coca-Cola if you will
Squeeze your rifle’s trigger for another kill

The rainforest’s about lawlessness
And justice had to be done
You see the man had tricked the girl
To see pink dolphins they look like pearls
Raped her on the river, floating in his boat
No pink dolphins no remorse
Those pink dolphins they were the lie
She was thirteen, the man had to die.
No judge, no jury, no pleading his case,
He was guilty of the rape.

Thou shall murder
Thou shall kill
Rainforest justice
Guts will spill.

He knelt down put the man in his sights
The trigger squeeze was oh so light
Recoil felt as the silence broke
The man dropped dead in the bottom of his boat
Surprise and terror crossed the man’s face
Another soul lost, no saving grace
For a sin like rape God will look the other way
«Listen carefully to what I have to say…»

Chorus
Ten Hail Marys your soul will be safe
Twenty Our Fathers will be your saving grace
Here’s a Coca-Cola if you will
Squeeze your rifle’s trigger for another kill

He gutted the man and threw him the river
the piranhas were so willing to deliver
No remains would be found as he cleaned his knife
But the man’s look of terror haunted Julio for life
Then he shot young Maria Lucia Petit who
was a young teacher activist, she was twenty two
Julio was 18 when he made his second hit
Five hundred more followed Maria to their deaths

No judges, no juries, no pleading their cases
Political targets, cheating spouses and rapists

Wild cat miners
So many fell
Their lives cut short
sent straight to Hell

Chorus
Ten Hail Marys your soul will be safe
Twenty Our Fathers will be your saving grace
Here’s a Coca-Cola if you will
Squeeze your rifle’s trigger for another kill

He always believed in God, so he told the Post
He suffered greatly before his loving Host
God gave him strength to endure his evil job
He knows all the killing the did was wrong
He hung up his rifle to end his strife
Gave up killing for the love of his life
He lost count, he had done so many hits
After 47 years he finally called it quits

Cause it’s not right to murder a man
That’s what the good book says
The love of his life
Was much too late
For five hundred souls
who had no saving grace

Chorus
5,000 Hail Marys later is his soul really safe?
10,000 Our Fathers will they be his saving grace?
Keep your Coca-Cola if you will
He’s hung up his rifle,

There won’t be another kill.

MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.

What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.

  4. Wow! I think this is my favorite of your songs, Tim. The storytelling and the questions of morality in the lyrics paired with the instrumentals.

Thanks, JYP. So many issues with morality, justice and what life is worth. If there’s a hell, part of hell for the rapist would be knowing his life was bought and paid for with a Coca Cola.

Tim this is probably my favorite song also. Wow I love this poem, the lines are rich with the life of a killer for hire. You have morality and the question of forgiveness for sin, and love as a motivating factor for a change in life style. Really great writing, production and I especially love the music for the chorus. Great Stuff!!!! Congratulations on the publication, real deserved. xoxoxox
