I walk on Icicles
by Cindy Georgakas
[author’s site]

I walk on Icicles
I sit in the shadow,
exposed, raw, vulnerable,
judged,
caste to the wolves.
Teeth grip into my flesh,
blood exposed,
tears pushed back
as far as I can push them
until they seep
through my toes,
to save face.

I disappear and vanish
as my ego runs
my souls hides. I sink
into the depths of sorrow
in this ancient body
that knows the inner cavity
of the whales belly,
the growl of the tiger,
the cell of the prisoner,
that didn’t commit the crime.

I have birthed 4 babies,
I have toiled the soil,
felt the frostbite,
nipping at my toes
and now they are frozen.
The tears have turned to icicles.
I become an ice monster
walking on stilts
in the dead of winter
which feels safer
than
the warmth of the fire.
I’ve been to hell before
and the ice
preserves my sanity and soul.

I’ve lived long enough to know
that I will melt the sorrow
felt in my tissue and psyche
and reemerge restored,
stronger than before.
But for now,
I walk on icicles

ABOUT US

Welcome to MasticadoresUSA.

MasticadoresUSA was founded by Juan Re Crivello as part of Gobblers/Masticadores in 2021. Its current editor is Gabriela Marie Milton.

MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.

What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.

SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

If you want to submit, please send your work – poetry and/or short prose – to gabrielamariemilton@gmail.com. In addition to the piece(s), you want to have published, we need your name, and the address of your site. Submit your work as a docx attachment – not in the body of the email. Limit your submission to two pieces.  We do not accept pieces longer than 300 words.

What are the themes that we are looking for? Surprise us!

However, MasticadoresUSA does not publish any work that contains racist, homophobic, sexist, and hate talk of any kind.

Looking forward to your submissions.

I knew you would like the ending as it has my usual ring that I always try to bring forth but to be honest….. it was an after thought haha… I always know truth is hidden under the deepest sorrow and pain and that is a message we can never forget.
