A Saturday in a Life
by Timothy Price
[author’s site]

I saw the dawn today oh boy
A ring of fire filled morning sky
Yellows push reds purples into gray
Sunlight fought
Clouds refused to give

I saw crows flying north today
South winds pushed them on their way
From the bank
I listened quite in vain
Nothing
Silence of the cranes

I saw some ducks today oh boy
Cinnamon colored behind the reeds
Beaver’s felled trees lay on banks
Dam broken
Breached by man

I saw the first flower bloomed today
Opened when sunlight slipped through gray
Yellow pushed through leaves dried brown
Closed up early
Before sun went down

I saw the dusk today oh boy
Pink in the east slipped through cloudy gray
Winds died darkness all round
Hoot owls call
Night back to life

Another Saturday in a Life by Timothy Price
Translated by Anne, somewhere in France, February, 2017

Aujourd’hui j’ai vu l’aube dis donc

nuageux
le vent tombé, l’obscurité tout autour
les hiboux hululant appellent
la nuit à la vie

ABOUT US

Welcome to MasticadoresUSA.

MasticadoresUSA was founded by Juan Re Crivello as part of Gobblers/Masticadores in 2021. Its current editor is Gabriela Marie Milton.

MasticadoresUSA features talented writers of poetry and short prose. We primarily publish writers who write in English, and are based in the USA. However, while the publication language remains English, we also welcome the work of our fellow writers from all over the world.

What do we want to bring to our readers? Edgar Allan Poe once wrote: Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. This is what we are committed to bringing to you. And that’s not an easy endeavor.

SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES

If you want to submit, please send your work – poetry and/or short prose – to gabrielamariemilton@gmail.com. This is Beautiful! I love the nod to the Beatles. I was actually listening to them when I read it. How appropriate! Thank you for introducing me to another great poet Gabriela 🙏

I had not listened to the Beatles in quite a while. But the song poped into my head when I was going through the photos for the post, and inspired the poem., Thanks, Ingrid.

This is a beautiful piece of writing Tim that describes the world you live in down by the Rio Grande. Your photography is splendid as always filling a page with glorious colors. I especially loved this part of your piece:

“I saw the first flower bloomed today
Opened when sunlight slipped through gray
Yellow pushed through leaves dried brown
    Closed up early
    Before sun went down”

I could see the owls sitting in the heart tree or another one of your beautiful trees. Love, Joni

You do live in a gorgeous world and I love the way you treasure every animal and appreciate their value, just like the precious photographs of the beavers doing their work.
I also appreciate your talent. Your poem was beautifully written. Love ❤️ Joni
